That is so true. With the film I recently completed the only "special effect" is the ghost of the child who was drowned in this film. You see him on several ocassions in the film by the help of an image screen where the actor is placed into the scene by basically superimposed into the given scene.

Simple effects are the best, IMHO. I used to love doing stop-motion, double-exposure, and mirror work, 30-40 years ago. When I had my own "studio" facility, I built a lot of full-size sets and miniatures, too. Not anymore. I have to improvise a lot.

Several of my old films are gone, most are in a box in the closet. And I have some boxes of slides and photos. I made most of my films in the mid-1970s. Those were good days.
